Getting Colin Firth into shape for ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’
In March 2000 I was contacted by the film production company Working Title,
who are responsible for making ‘Four Weddings and A Funeral’, ‘Notting Hill’,
‘Billy Elliot’ and ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’. I was approached to
train Colin Firth, best known for his role as Mr Darcy in Jane Austin’s ‘Pride
and Prejudice’, to get him in to shape for the lead role in the film ’Bridget
Jones’s Diary’, co-starring Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant.
I devised a complete healthy eating regime for Colin, and we embarked on
a very intense exercise plan, as he only had a few months before filming
commenced. He worked out 4 days per week with me over the eight week
period, and Colin made amazing progress during that time and met all of his
goals. We continued to train during the filming to maintain the results achieved,
which can be seen in the film ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’.
